Bitter Gourd also known as Karela in India is a one of the wonderful vegetable with amazing benefits for your skin, intestine, stomach, obesity, heart, lungs and diabetes It is the very bitter in taste as compared to the other members of gourd family.

It is widely used in the form of vegetable, fruit and juice in Asian countries. It is a kind of climber plant that grows in temperate regions of India.

Benefits of Bitter Gourd / Karela:

  1. Bitter gourd juice taken in quantities of 15-20 ml everyday is very beneficial for purifying blood and any skin problems.

  2. Juice is also very effective in treating high blood sugar levels.

  3. Being high in fibre content it controls cholesterol levels and helps reduce the obesity.

  4. Being good source of Vit- A and C, it helps to improve immunity and vision.

  5. It has abundant supply of minerals and anti-oxidants that helps to flush toxins from the body.

Recipe for Bitter Gourd

  1. Slice the fresh bitter gourd into round circular rings

  1. Julienne one onion

  2. Take 1 spoon of Olive oil in to a pan over stove. Saute the onion

  3. Add pinch of carom seeds and let it crackle with pinch of asafoetida

  4. Add 1/2 table spoon of turmeric and mix it well, Add salt as per taste

  5. Add the sliced bitter gourd to the pan and saute with rest of mixture for 10- 15 minutes until cooked properly.
